Liquor Chest of Captain Edward E. Allen (Union), Judge Advocate

1864-1865
MHM Collections

Many soldiers purchased items from Warne, Cheever & Company in St. Louis, Missouri, which manufactured and imported house goods and furnishings in addition to selling army supplies such as camp chests and field desks. The French blue paint on this liquor chest seems to be characteristic of the company’s products, which could be customized with the owner’s name.
