Study Skull from McDowell’s College

ca. 1855
MHM Collections

Before legislation allowed dissection in medical schools in Missouri, McDowell and others relied on surreptitious means of procuring cadavers for study. In 1844, a mob marched on McDowell’s College in response to reports of grave robbing and the improper disposal of dissected remains of human corpses by the students and faculty.
