Amputation Kit of Dr. Gustavus T. Wieland, 41st Infantry Missouri Volunteers (Union)

1859-1860
MHM Collections

This surgical kit contains only instruments that would have been used to perform amputations: bone saws, tourniquet, forceps, and knives. In addition to such kits, Civil War surgeons kept larger surgical sets for performing general operations and smaller kits for specialized procedures including dental work.
