Mrs. Trusten Polk

Polk was sent south to join her husband, a former Missouri governor and U.S. congressman, who was with the Confederate army. One local newspaper reported that Mrs. Polk “was held to have repeatedly expressed sympathy of the rebel cause [and] indulged in treasonable correspondence.”
