General Frémont's Army on the March through Southwestern Missouri

MHM Collections

This sketch is one of Alexander Simplot’s original depictions that he created while observing the Army of the Frontier. It was published in Harper's Weekly on November 16, 1861. Illustrated publications, like Harper’s Weekly, gave people back home relatively current scenes of the war and updated accounts of the war’s progress. Likewise, they also gave soldiers a connection to national events beyond their military posts.
