Compass of Captain Henry M. Clark (Confederate)

1860-1865
MHM Collections

Clark served on Price’s staff during the battle of Wilson's Creek, and the following day he wrote to his wife describing the carnage. “The day of battle was intensely hot…. This morning the stench of the dead is horrible beyond conception. The dead are being buried as fast as possible. 23 wagons of the enemy were all night hauling off their dead.”
