Brigadier General Daniel M. Frost

As brigadier general of the state militia, Frost served as overall commander at Camp Jackson. With his troops completely surrounded by Lyon’s superior force, Frost answered Lyon’s demand for surrender by indignantly responding that it was an “unwarranted attack.” Though Frost correctly argued that the muster of state troops had been legal, his participation in a plan to seize a Federal arsenal was not.
