J. B. Sickles & Company, a manufacturer and retailer of saddles and related hardware in St. Louis, received several contracts amounting to over 40,000 various pieces of soldier’s gear and horse equipment. He produced pistol holsters and other leather goods including 2,000 cartridge boxes to hold the uniquely shaped, tapered metallic cartridges used for Burnside carbines.
