The Western Sanitary Commission obtained funds and goods from around the nation that were then used in relief facilities in St. Louis or forwarded to the field for the care of wounded soldiers. This list of articles details thousands of medical supplies and food items sent to the front lines of General Grant’s troops in June 1863 during the Vicksburg campaign. The following items are representative of the goods that were distributed by the Western Sanitary Commission throughout the war.
