John S. Marmaduke’s Pledge Not to Attempt Escape

One of Price’s commanding officers, Marmaduke had long been a thorn in the side of Union military authorities for raids he led into southern Missouri earlier in the war. He was finally captured along with other Confederate officers at the Battle of Mine Creek during the Confederate retreat from Westport.
